Blagojevich Sentenced to Prison
Former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich was sentenced to 14 years in a federal prison last Wednesday after being convicted of several charges of corruption last June. Blagojevich famously was caught on audio tape talking about attempting to sell the seat in the United States Senate that was vacated when Barack Obama became president. The disgraced former governor was found guilty by a jury on 17 separate criminal charges, including wire fraud, bribery and extortion. Blagojevich had faced as much as 20 years in a federal prison for his crimes. The former governor apologized for his behavior in court and now has 90 days to turn himself in to local law enforcement agents and begin serving his sentence.
